Why simulate before spending
The cheapest way to learn the upgrade curve in Metin2
Metin2's upgrade system is the largest single drain on Yang and event materials for most active players. The curve looks shallow at first - +0 to +4 attempts succeed often - and then steepens hard from +5 onward. By +9 the expected number of attempts to reach the next level can be five to ten times higher than at +4. The Upgrade Simulator lets you feel that curve without burning real scrolls.
The tool is intentionally simple: pick a target level, set a bonus chance, then press Simulate. Each attempt rolls against the chance and updates success rate, expected attempts, and the recent attempt log. After 50-100 simulated attempts you usually have a realistic sense of how many materials a given target really costs.
Upgrade chance by level
Common Metin2 upgrade success ranges
Exact upgrade rates vary by server and item type, but most official Metin2 servers and many popular private servers cluster around the ranges below. Use them as a planning baseline and then refine with your own log.
Cheap to attempt with default scrolls. Use these levels to test gear without serious risk.
First difficulty wall. Bonus scrolls or item drop charms start mattering at this point.
The classic upgrade trap. Many players burn 5-10 attempts here before clearing the level.
Endgame zone. Plan a deep material stockpile and consider running bonus chance items.
Premium upgrades, often locked behind events or high-tier scrolls. Failures destroy or downgrade items on many servers.
Planning scenarios
How to actually use the simulator
Going from +4 to +7 on a budget weapon
Use the simulator with default bonus to estimate attempts. Expect to fail at least once at +5 or +6, and have 8-12 spare scrolls before starting the +7 push.
Setting a hard budget for +9
Set the level slider to +9 and try several bonus chance values. The expected attempts number tells you the realistic material cost; multiply by your scroll price for a budget cap.
Comparing event bonus weeks
When the official event raises upgrade chance, re-run the simulator with the higher bonus value. A +20% week can cut expected attempts roughly in half at mid levels.
Common mistakes
Why upgrade plans fall apart
Chasing one item with no reset
After 4-5 fails in a row, players often double down to recover. The math does not care about your previous fails. Set a stop loss and walk away when it triggers.
Ignoring bonus chance items
At +7 and above, a 10-15% upgrade bonus item shifts the math more than another stack of scrolls. The simulator's bonus slider models this directly.
Treating private server math as official
Private servers commonly inflate upgrade rates, sometimes by 30-50%. If your real rate feels much higher than the simulator, your server is the explanation.
FAQ
Metin2 Upgrade Simulator questions
Are the Metin2 Upgrade Simulator chances the same as in-game?
They are realistic estimates based on widely reported community values. Real rates vary by server, item type, and which scroll or event modifier is active. Use the bonus slider to match your situation.
Why do I keep failing at +7 even with 40% chance?
40% means you fail roughly 6 out of 10 attempts. A streak of 5 fails in a row is uncomfortable but mathematically normal. Plan for variance, not the average.
How many scrolls should I save before pushing +9?
Use the expected attempts value from the simulator and multiply by 1.5 to 2 for safety. If the expected attempts is 7, a stockpile of 12-14 scrolls is a healthy buffer.
Does the simulator account for item destruction?
Not yet. It tracks attempts and successes only. If your server destroys or downgrades on failure, factor in a material multiplier and additional replacement cost on top of the simulator estimate.
Can I use this to compare official vs private server economies?
Yes. Run the simulator with two different bonus values, write down expected attempts for both, and use the ratio to compare effective grind time across servers.
Should I upgrade weapon or armor first?
Weapon upgrades usually translate into faster farming. If your goal is to clear a higher map or reach an event reward tier faster, the weapon is the priority. Use the Yang Goal Calculator to plan the funding.

Plan the cost, then plan the time
The simulator tells you how many attempts a target needs. The Yang Goal Calculator turns that attempt count into farming hours. The Alchemy Simulator covers Dragon Stone progression that sits on top of weapon and armor upgrades. Use the three together for a full upgrade plan.

Where these ranges come from
Upgrade chance ranges are based on the official Metin2 Wiki upgrade pages and widely shared community data. This page is an unofficial player tool and does not replicate proprietary server math. Always confirm current rates through official patch notes for your server before committing materials.
